Referring Students to Mill Meadow
Intervention
Mill Meadow provides intervention support through group work and one to one work. The SENCo can liaise with Jenny Harding to discuss what intervention would most benefit an individual student or a group of students. Intervention can be run at the Mill Meadow or as outreach in individual schools. If neighbouring schools identify a common need, Jenny can come out to one setting but deliver intervention to students from neighbouring schools as well in that setting. All requests for intervention require the SENCo to complete as referral form which asks for some background details as to the child's needs, and for outcomes and success criteria to be considered.
Schools may also wish for support with early intervention support looking more at a whole class/year group focus. SENCos are welcome to contact Jenny Harding to discuss individual requirements.
Internal Exclusion
Mill Meadow also provides support through providing schools with an Internal Exclusion facility. This is similar to a school using a fixed term exclusion. The student can be booked in for one or two days Internal Exclusion and schools should send their usual Teaching Assistant* with the student, along with core curriculum teaching for Jenny Harding to deliver. Alongside the core curriculum Jenny Harding will work with the student on behavioural strategies to enable the student to understand their own behaviour better and change their behaviour patterns.
Notice will be required for Internal Exclusion, although it is understood that sometimes schools will need this facility at short notice and so Internal Exclusion where possible will be given priority over group or individual sessions. Please liaise with Jenny Harding and Charlie Edwards before arranging Internal Exclusion to ensure that there is capacity for days required at Mill Meadow.
To ensure maximum impact from any intervention, students should be made known to Mill Meadow before their behaviour reaches the need for Internal Exclusion. This enables Jenny Harding to work with the student either at Mill Meadow or in their usual setting to establish support to enable affective support to change behaviours.
Individual schools are responsible for the transportation to and from Mill Meadow and for informing parents.
Internal Exclusion should be requested by a member of the school's senior management as would be the case with a Fixed Term Exclusion, and should be communicated to both student and their parents/carers via direct contact followed up by a letter home confirming details.
*Where the child is statemented. Where a Teaching Assistant is only required for part of the day(s), Jenny Harding will liaise with the school to ensure that their time is not wasted and resources taken away from a school setting unnecessarily.
