How to Refer for Internal Exclusion in Mill Meadow - Primary
Internal Exclusion must be seen as equivalent to a Fixed Term Exclusion. The extra power of an Internal Exclusion in Mill Meadow is that the student will have one to one support which means that they will spend the whole day working on both curriculum based work, and also working with Jenny Harding on the triggers for the behaviour that caused the Internal Exclusion. This is why the full reason for the referral must be discussed with Jenny Harding prior to the date of exclusion.
Please contact Jenny Harding ([email protected]) for a Referral for Internal Exclusion form.
1. Behaviour is significant enough to lead to a Fixed Term Exclusion
2. The Head/Principal decides on Internal Exclusion rather than Fixed Term Exclusion (NB FTE may still be given instead of Internal Exclusion if it more appropriate)
3. Referral for Internal Exclusion form is completed by school and the exact reasons for referral are discussed with Jenny Harding or Charlie Edwards at Okehampton College.
4. Jenny Harding will then try to accommodate the date(s) requested for the Internal Exclusion. This may require Jenny to cancel or rearrange some meetings. Internal Exclusion is seen as a priority and where possible Jenny will try to rearrange other meetings. Fridays Jenny is based in Okehampton College all day and therefore may be easier to accommodate quickly.
The TA supporting that child should accompany and be part of the process. If you are not able to accommodate this please discuss with Jenny Harding first. Responsibility for transporting the student remains with the primary school to arrange in conversation with parents/carers. The student must be informed to bring packed lunch and drinks with them. The day will usually run from 10-4 with supervised breaks in the Mill Meadow for lunch and break time. The student will be escorted to use the main college toilets when required.
Please note this system will be reviewed after the first Primary Internal Exclusion. We would be very grateful if schools can feedback any comments or suggestions on improvements to Charlie Edwards ([email protected])
