Child Protection Statement
Okehampton Learning Community is committed to safeguarding and child protection.
Schools follow the approved Devon County Policy on Child Protection, a copy of which should be available on request from your child's school or on the school website.
A member of the Okehampton Stepping Stones team is a Senior Designated Officer for Child Protection with Level 3 training. Should any concerns be raised to a member of the wider Stepping Stones team, or a member of the team observes something that concerns them in the 4 areas of child protection (neglect, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse) they will log that concern with the Child Protection officer of the appropriate school. They will communicate details of the incident or disclosure as soon as is possible (by the next working day) and follow up in writing. They will also confirm that they have done that with the Stepping Stones Senior Designated Officer for Child Protection, leaving out any information on names or details of the concern . The individual school's Child Protection Officer will then make the decision re further action.
Child Protection Officers' primary concern is the protection of children, they are also there to support parents, members of the community and other students who may have a concern about a young person. If you have a concern regarding Child Protection, or would like more information on Child Protection, please contact your school's Child Protection Officer directly. Please do not use the 'contact us' facility on this website.
